Environmental impact assessment of “Mon Empreinte Smartphone”

Ensure that the ecodesign efforts of the application have been effective

Check the environmental impact of its application

Environmental impact assessment

  • The environmental impact of IT is far from trivial: pollution of water, soil and the atmosphere during the upstream and downstream phases of the hardware’s life cycle, greenhouse gas emissions throughout the life cycle (currently 3 to 4% of global emissions, and growing rapidly)…
  • A mobile application or a website contributes to these environmental impacts through various aspects, from the seemingly innocuous gesture of the user on his or her smartphone to the service provider’s data centres, via the network equipment.
  • It is in this context that the operator decided to create the “Mon Empreinte Smartphone” application, to make users aware of the need to reduce their data consumption.

  • A very sober application in its use phase.
  • This is the first application from a telecom player to obtain the Greenspector Digital Sobriety Certificate at the “Silver” level for both applications: Android and iOS.
  • The results of the eco-design efforts carried out by the Bouygues Telecom team were verified by measurements

  • Measurement campaign on smartphones using Greenspector technologies, for both Android and iOS applications. Automation of user paths, iterative execution and measurement, analysis of metrics (energy, data…) by our consultants
  • Advice and recommendations to go further in eco-design, based on the measurements made
  • Carbon impact projection according to our complete model
